Welcome!!! |
Welcome to the United Church of Christ-Congregational web page. We were the first congregation formed in Grinnell in 1855. Our commitment to social justice has deep roots because we were founded as an abolitionist church. We are a spiritual community of around 250 members striving to deepen our faith and love. As a community of seekers we wrestle with all life's tough questions, we just don't profess to have all the answers. We strive to live our vision statement: "We are servants of God and one Spirit. We will be a family open to all. We will strive for peace and justice." Wherever you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.
Confirmation is one way to become a member. It is a program in which the student has opportunities to learn about the united Church of Christ, explore her or his faith, and express one's faith in service.
You may become a member of this church by Letter of Transfer from another church or affirmation of faith or through baptism. We have a program of full membership or associate membership. Associate members often retain membership in another congregation as well. Full and associate members may participate in all aspects of church life including the right to vote on all congregational issues.
Communion: the first Sunday of every month. Our Communion Table is open to all who seek to know and follow Christ, including children. This includes a special food offering for the food pantry.
Baptism: We recognize both infant and adult baptism. God's love and grace are recognized by the members of this congregation in each recipient of baptism. Each person is accepted into our Christian community.
I hope we may have the opportunity to meet, and invite you to join us for worship, or stop in to visit. Please call (641 236 3111) if you would like more information, or are in need of pastoral care.
